5 Myths About Introverts and Extroverts

Oct 22, 2026

Shy is not the same as introverted, and most people are actually in the middle. Five common myths, gently busted.

1. “Introverts are shy”

Shyness is nervousness about being judged. Introversion is about where you get energy. Plenty of introverts give confident speeches — they just need quiet time afterwards.

2. “Extroverts never need alone time”

Everyone needs rest. Extroverts tend to recharge through activity and people, but long stressful days drain them too.

3. “You are either one or the other”

Extraversion is a spectrum. Most people are ambiverts, sliding toward one side depending on mood, sleep and situation.

4. “Extroverts make better leaders”

Research suggests both can lead well. Introverted leaders are often great at listening and letting proactive teams shine; extroverted leaders excel at energising groups.

5. “Your type never changes”

Traits are fairly stable, but they shift slowly across life and change with context. Treat your result as today’s weather report, not a permanent climate.
